British Diplomatic Oil Crisis: Contemporary Anglo-Saxon Geopolitical Rivalries in the Persian Gulf: Drawing a Lesson? Or Sir Anthony Eden‘s Delusion of Grandeur.
Chapter Two
will concentrate on the crisis caused by the nationalisation of
the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. First an account of the British Government’s
involvement in the Iranian oil will be given. This will be followed by a
study of events which led to the nationalisation crisis of 1951, Iran and
the oil question. Then the involvement of the Labour Government will be
discussed. When the Iranian Government nationalised the Anglo-Iranian Oil
Company in 1951, the Labour Government in the United Kingdom was still in
office. The Labour Government’s response to the nationalisation of the
Anglo-Iranian Oil Company will be studied which will lead on to the
following chapter.
In Chapter Three an analysis of
the Labour Government’s policy towards the
nationalisation of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company will be made.
The investigation in Chapter
Four will consider the United States’ policy to
mediate in the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company’s crisis. The chapter analyses the
response of the Conservative Government to the nationalisation of the Anglo-
Iranian Oil Company.
Chapter Five will concentrate
on the Conservative Government’s handling, and
ending, of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company’s crisis of 1954.
Chapter Six will focus on the
United Kingdom’s foreign policy and relations
with Iran in the aftermath of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company’s crisis. An
examination of the British Government’s policy to protect British interests
in the Persian Gulf, access to the oil reserves and stable conditions for
its production, following the nationalisation of the Anglo-Iranian Oil
Company, the main British interest in the area, will be made.
